Boxing for fitness, fun AND fighting
Making White Collar and Semi- Professional Boxing safe and accessible
Non-contact boxing is renowned for its benefits to your fitness, both for the mind and body, and is now suitable for people from all walks of life. Boxing combines cardio, strength, flexibility, power, coordination, agility, and motor-skills which can benefit so many physical and mental conditions.
But when people step up to contact training and to competing, views, particularly from the old-school routes seem to change. Yes, when boxing becomes competitive and contact is involved, the risk does increase, but that risk is what drives people, gives them pride, motivates them to be healthy, boosts self-esteem, encourages focus, challenges them, creates friendship groups and camaraderie, and even drives them away from other vices. And these newfound qualities can be transferred to outside the ring.
We have had people who fight to get over heartbreak, to prove to themselves they are brave, to beat mental and physical demons, to step out of their comfort zone, because they’ve beaten cancer, to deal with past trauma and sometimes it’s just because they are good at boxing; they enjoy it and simply want to compete.
So why not make it accessible and open up opportunities to those who are overlooked by the traditional boxing route? Whether they have limited ability, or discovered boxing later in life, or can’t compete because they are over 40, or are a woman who has struggled for opportunities via the traditional route – boxing should welcome them all.
And we can give you an experience like no other, a camp run by coaches with years of boxing experience, specialising in putting different people, with an array of backgrounds, through the ropes. With qualified personal trainers running the strength and conditioning element, with pre- and post-natal coaches who can support the rebuilding of a woman’s postnatal body back into competing, and with an onsite qualified fight injury clinic. No huge training groups: but small ones with meaning, focus and guidance on each person who chooses to fight. And to top it all off, we offer a fight-night experience like no other; in a great venue, under the lights, walking out to their friends and family singing along to their walkout song. A real fight-night feel.
And your safety is our priority. Before committing to our ten-week intensive programme, everyone must demonstrate skill in defence and attack in our classes, as well as having a high fitness level. When it comes to sparring, its gradual. All sparring is conducted in the ring and under supervision;
starting off by throwing and defending the jab and moving in the ring then slowly increasing the intensity, coached the whole way through – no one is thrown in swinging. Our front of house staff and coaches are first-aid trained and cut-person trained.
For the big fight, rounds are only two minutes with 16oz gloves for all debutants, moving to 10oz gloves once the ability and experience is of a higher level. Our qualified referees put fighters’ safety before anything else and have no agenda when it comes to stopping fights other than to keep people safe. The team of medics include a doctor, paramedic and nurse who come along with an ambulance and driver, running detailed pre- and post-fight medicals to all the competitors.
And the matchups? We build relationships with other gyms and see trust as non-negotiable when matching our fighters. We spend hours watching footage to find that right match: no corruption, no fixes, no unhealthy weight cuts, and no mismatches.
